ABOUT THE PROJECT
HOPE IS A WEAPON. began as a graffiti tagging project around the bahamas as a part of the 9th National Exhibition at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas in 2018.
“I wanted to create a project that stretched beyond the walls of the gallery; I wanted whatever my contribution was to this exhibition to be accessible to every Bahamian. That’s what the street tagging allowed for. T-shirts were made to continue the goal of spreading motivation through the island as the street tags were doing. The shirts allowed people to carry the phrase with them and spread it in the way that I did.”
In 2019, In the wake of hurricane dorian, the project found new virtue as angelika collaborated with both the NATIONAL art gallery of the bahamas and idea relief to spread hope and raise money for hurricane relief efforts through the project’s merchandise. All profits from merchandise continue to be donated to hurricane dorian relief efforts.
